The walk home can turn a tidy backpack into a bundle of wet coats. Keeping those coats away from the spare jumpers takes a little planning before you leave.
Reserve somewhere for wet kit
Use a separate suitable bag or compartment for damp outerwear. Keep the dry clothing protected on its own, and make sure the wet-kit space is easy to reach when the weather changes. Avoid packing so tightly that a roll-top closure cannot be made correctly.
For a family, separate clothing by person where that helps you find it. Let children pass their used layers to an adult instead of pushing them into whichever pocket has space. Keep food in suitable food containers rather than using a general dry bag as unpackaged food storage.
Back home, empty the bags that evening. Drying everything now saves discovering a damp fleece just as the next weekend walk is starting.
