Family Camping Checklist for a UK Weekend
A good packing list starts with your campsite, your family and the forecast. Use this checklist as a starting point, then adapt it to the facilities available and the conditions expected.
Family tents and camping sleep essentials
- A tent with sleeping space for everyone and room for your bags.
- The correct poles, pegs and guylines for your tent.
- Sleeping bags selected using their comfort rating.
- Sleeping mats or airbeds that fit the tent floor plan.
- A pump if your sleeping setup requires one, plus pillows and spare layers.
Camping stoves, cookware and meal planning
- A suitable camping stove and the exact fuel specified by its manufacturer.
- Compatible cookware, utensils, reusable plates and washing-up supplies.
- Drinking water, food storage and a simple meal plan.
- Flasks or reusable bottles for days away from camp.
Camping furniture, lighting and clothing
- Folding chairs and a table that fit your boot space.
- A torch or lantern and the batteries or charging equipment it needs.
- Waterproof layers, spare socks, towels and appropriate footwear.
- A small first-aid kit and any personal essentials.
- Simple games, books or activities chosen together.
Make the first evening easier
Pack the torch, tent parts and first meal where you can reach them without emptying the car. Keep each person’s spare clothes together. Agree who will supervise children while the tent goes up, and check where the toilets and drinking water are when you arrive.
Count plates, cups and seats for everyone; a cookware set’s piece count is not its number of place settings. Bring a simple no-cook meal in case pitching takes longer than expected.
Final checks before your UK camping trip
Practise pitching the tent, check for missing parts and measure the packed kit against your available luggage space. Confirm campsite rules and facilities, check the forecast again and make a plan for wet weather.
Follow all equipment instructions. Use fuel-burning cooking equipment only outdoors in a suitable open area, never inside a tent or enclosed porch.
