Outdoor Equipment Safety & Suitability

Choose equipment for the conditions, your experience and the people using it. Read the supplied instructions and inspect everything before each trip.

Camping stoves and hot cookware

Use gas stoves outdoors only. Never cook with a fuel-burning appliance inside a tent, enclosed awning or vehicle: fire and carbon monoxide can be fatal. Check the correct gas connection and fuel, keep combustible items clear and allow equipment to cool before packing.

Tents and vehicle shelters

Check dimensions, attachment systems and weather limitations before buying. Secure shelters as instructed and take them down when conditions exceed their intended use. Keep flames and hot appliances away. A rail canopy, screen room and drive-away awning are different products; do not assume they fit the same vehicle.

Sleeping equipment

Choose a sleeping bag and mat for the forecast, ground conditions and your personal comfort. An extreme temperature figure is not a comfort recommendation. Where no verified insulation value is supplied, do not assume suitability for cold-weather use.

Climbing accessories

Chalk bags and hold brushes are accessories, not safety equipment. Accessory clips must never support a person. Ascent’s current climbing range does not provide a complete personal protective system.

Children and equipment checks

Adults should supervise children around stoves, hot drinks, folding mechanisms and guy lines. Stop using damaged equipment. Contact us if a product appears unsafe; we can help with the next steps.
